If you follow Rafa-kids blog for some time, you probably know we moved to a new home a year ago. It’s a renovated industrial space in Rotterdam. I was showing it over here. The loft we have is very minimal and modern. To create a cozy and warm atmosphere in such a space can be challenging. I started a new Instagram account called Rafainteriors, where I share my decorating ideas and all the process I go through.
On my trip to Mexico, I fell in love with naturally finished walls. It’s a popular way to stucco walls, floors, and selling in the same material, which I adore. This way, the interior becomes a unity, and I personally find it more soft and cozy. The idea of changing the white interior at our home grew in me slowly. I knew it would be out of my comfort zone, but I wanted to do it! I believe that sometimes you should let go and grow. I started to look and ask around for options and came across the amazing natural paints of L’Authentique.
What I like the most about the L’Authentique is that they do not offer standard products! They produce various types of unique and high-quality paints, such as lime and chalk paint.
We are so lucky that they are based in The Netherlands! We went to their showroom in Culemborg to see all the paint options. And even more special was the chat with a passionate owner Sylvia Schouten. What a treat this was! We knew from the first moment we are in the right place. Sylvia created and developed her line of products. She started with paints, but now she also offers interior decor items.
After some discussion, we decided to go for Lime paint. It’s a type of paint made of water and lime, and therefore 100% natural. Lime paint produces a unique matt effect and adds an exceptional touch. I adore the idea that our walls are one of a kind. Depending on the way you put the paint on the walls, you can control the final effect. One wall that I wanted to be more ‘outspoken’ was painted with brush and spatula. Edges and color transitions are here sharper and more graphic. Other walls and ceilings were painted by brash only, giving a more smooth and calm effect. The natural look is an effect of three shades of paint mixed right on the wall.
Our chosen Beige Grigiatro tone was the lead paint, with lighter and darker shades as additions. We stood speechless, seeing how Silvia creates her art right in front of us. The walls started to look like paintings, and the whole interior changed in a heartbeat. I have to admit that it takes a moment to get used to such a significant change. It’s like having a new, giant artwork in your house. But after putting the furniture in place, hanging curtains and photographs on the walls, our new living room took our breath away.
It is warm, earthy, and peaceful. I can’t wait to show you the final effect soon!
