We know that transitioning your child from a baby bed into a toddler is not always easy. Today, we sneak peek at how Mathilda transitions her 3-year-old, Noori, into a new room. She is a professional interior designer ( which certainly helps! ) and runs her practice under mkdesign.
This lovely family lives in London, and after they moved into a new house, it was time to upgrade Nooris’s baby crib and teddy bears to some cars and dinosaurs! It was a little challenging…
Small space Big personality!
The room was only 1700mm wide, making it too narrow for a standard 2-meter single bed. Mathilda wanted to create more play space, provide a larger bed for her growing boy, and include ample storage.
” With Noori turning three (…) I knew it was time to update his baby room into a toddler space with more space to play, a bigger bed and some fun new structure to experiment with!.”
After considering all the needs, she came up with the idea to build a bed nook, allowing the rest of the room for play. The new corner was painted dark to make it extra cosy. She even added a rod and velvet mustard short curtains to completely close this alcove and make it extra dark for deep, longer sleep! You can read about all the details here.
What a lovely idea! The dark toddler bed looks perfect in this spot. Above the nook, an extra storage space was created, which is necessary to keep the small room tidy and organised. To help make the bedtime routine even smoother, Mathilda styled this corner with the XL wall shelf. This way, Noorican pick up his favourite books for bedtime stories! It also helps display favourite toys, pictures, and LED lights.
Mathilda thoughts about the R toddler bed:
” …It was VERY easy to put together with straightforward instructions and all the parts for assembly.(even a soft yellow pad to hammer all the pieces together without damaging the bed)
The wheels made it extra simple to move around! I really really love it!…” ”
Cool room with modern furniture!
THANK YOU so much, Mathilda, for sharing this special moment with us!

Children wardrobe is sadly almost always this bulky piece collecting dust in the corner of a room. We wanted to create something not only functional but also looking great and above all to be sure children will use it with joy!
We used to make our samples from simple wooden blocks. After some time we realized that this creates unnecessary waste as probably most of our customers throw away the wood samples after seeing it. It felt wrong. We wanted to make something good…..
Let’s go bold, brave, and unapologetically stylish. Why should having a baby mean compromising your interior style? Our Rocking Cot in black is for the design-loving parent who wants their nursery to reflect their home’s aesthetic and strong personality.
