Don’t you feel like you desperately need a bit of sun on your face at the beginning of the year? Well, I find it challenging to stay positive and motivated in the winter months in the Netherlands. Snowy winters in Europe, which I used to love when I was a child are somehow gone. Instead, there are dark, rainy months which we have to go through. After Christmas and New Year, we are entering this fogy blue period, waiting for the Spring to come.
This January, I decided to escape. Yes, the decision was pretty easy, as I’m a lucky woman who has a friend living in Tulum, Mexico. I have never been to Mexico before, so after a long flight, I had a hard time to adopt my eyes to the intense light. The warm breeze which grabbed me directly after I left a plane was heaven! You don’t need to use filters to make pictures here, the blue sky, wild greenery, and light are so photogenic. If someone sends you photos from here, please believe – it’s so magically beautiful over here.
Of course, there are different sides to this country, depending on where you go and how you look around. I’m not a person who puts pink glasses on and don’t see that there is a dark, miserable, and even dangerous site of being in Mexico. I decided to show you today just a tiny part of Tulum, which I found very inspiring.
Nomadetulum
On the seaside of Tulum, there is a long Beach Road. It cuts straight through the center of the town with shops and restaurants lining each side of this roadway. Most of the new boutique hotels are build over here in the last years. It’s a significant investment in the tourism industry but done in my option in the best possible way. The new architecture is hidden and adopted into the Tulum jungle landscape. Don’t be surprised to be confronted with a tree in the middle of the pharmacy store! Or enter a restaurant just spread inside a forest of trees. It’s simply magical and maintains more of a small-town feel than neighboring tourist resorts! I’m showing you only one hotel called Nomadetulum, which I found the most interesting from what I have seen. The creation of Sebastian Sas consists of 35 casitas, which invite you into a chic bohemian atmosphere filled with hammocks and private retreats. We had a chance to see a few of the luxurious rooms, thanks to Cecilia De Laurente, who created the interiors. All casitas have private terraces and are located steps away from the stunning sandy beach.
It isn’t easy to tell you what I liked the most; I think all the natural materials used in this hotel help to break the barrier between inside-outside, which naturally intertwine. It is truly a feeling of healing yourself with a high-quality escape from civilization.
Can you imagine that the sand has the consistency of baking flour? That’s the velvet sand structure on Tulum beach. I was there in January, which seems not to be a trendy time to travel, which was quite pleasant.
“… Tulum is slowly maturing. The food offerings, boutiques and a few hotels are becoming more refined. Just a few years ago the guests visiting Tulum where happy with just a tent on the beach, a cold beer and fish taco but that has changed. The new visitor is expecting a higher level of service that comes along with the more seasoned and sophisticated traveler, but still within the rustic, bohemian vibe. …” James Chippendale said for Forbes
I know I’m coming back there!
I promised my boys plenty of totally different adventures over there. It will be another trip with diverse experience, and I can’t wait to show them this enjoyable part of Mexico.
I will tell you honestly that it seems to me that Rotterdam is not a city for everyone. You wonder why? It’s a raw, modern city where you need to put an extra effort to discover it – and either you hate it or love it!
We were lucky to take a deep breath and relax during the last days of 2021 in Norway. This trip gave our family a good energy boost, as we escaped into a Winter Paradise!
It was a relief that we could finally travel after more than a year, primarily at home. We decided to choose the direction of Scandinavia. The laid back Copenhagen lifestyle is perfect for enjoying time with kids.
Finland has a special place in our hearts because Rafa-kid’s furniture is made from quality Finnish plywood. This country is covered 65% by forests. What makes it unique are the cold nordic winters influencing the trees and give them special qualities.
