Sarah is a mom of toddler twins Caspian and Quill who lives with her family of four in Melbourne. Maybe you know her already from Instagram @thebearcubclub where she shares her experience with us. Very recently, she decided to separate the boys for the first time by giving each of them their own room! For sure, it is very exciting for the kids, but also for the mom who loves to decorate! So far, the change is going very well, and we have a chance to adore the review of the new Quills room!
I think Sarah prefers gender-neutral bedroom themes and shows us clearly that her boys rooms are cute, individualised, and functional. She called the place ‘Bright sunshine’, and as you can see, space is created with a dominant color theme. The furniture is wooden and rattan and all accessories in brown-beige tones. Sarah was very consequent in her choices, except for the pink shoes – try to find them! and the mint coloured wardrobe.
Did you notice a strong trend for monogrammatic and gender-neutral children’s rooms? The love for natural textures and colors seems very strong at the moment in the interior design world. If I would show you this room without telling if it’s a boy’s room, would you guess? I believe a child’s room doesn’t need to declare “ I’m a boy” or “ I’m a girl, “ and we can happily avoid this stereotypical way of thinking while decorating.
After all, the great thing about choosing the gender-neutral bedroom is that it will most likely grow easily with your child. Neutral furniture, such a simple bed, can always be refreshed with colorful children’s bedding when they are smaller and give them a more ‘mature’ one when they are older. I’m a big fan of the neutral color pallet at my own home, as I noticed I enjoy it longer and it stays good despite changing trends. But maybe after a few years, we will look back, and say that this monogrammatic neutral style was also a trend?
The most important will always be to listen to our own taste and what our kids like and feel the most comfortable with, right? Happy decorating!
I’m always excited when I see stylish houses which also show children’s rooms. They should be part of our houses and deserve our attention too. This beautiful home of Sarah Pickersgill-Brown, and her family is a fantastic example of that!
When we expect a child we would like all the best possible for the baby room, but the true is that we really don’t need that much. And believe me, each year, many toys and accessories will pop in into kids room, even if we don’t want to….
