We are so lucky at the moment with the beautiful Indian Summer in The Netherlands. It’s our family tradition to go picking apples with children every Autumn. This time we got back home with more than 15kg!
I’m aware of the fact that my kids grow in Rotterdam so this sort of experience is not an everyday possibility. That’s why I like to escape from the city from time to time. The taste of freshly picked fruit, is not comparable with the ones you get in store, I’m afraid. Both of our boys are always very excited to visit Olmenhorst. An apple and pear orchard close by the famous Keukenhof gardens. It is such a bless to walk around the trees, picking up beautifully ripe apples. We usually cannot resist to eat a few right away. Yummy! Kids often get into a little competition to see who gets the biggest apple or pear.
This year I have seen people coming with own ladders to get to the less accessible tasty bits higher up the trees. It’s good to go there a bit early to avoid the crowd, especially during the weekends. If you would have any chance to go there during the week I highly recommend it, to enjoy a more relaxed, comfortable atmosphere. There is a little restaurant, store where you can buy all the locally made products or adopt your apple tree. More on the website here: Olmenhorst
I have never been to Mexico before, so after a long flight, I had a hard time to adopt my eyes to the intense light. The warm breeze which grabbed me directly after I left a plane was heaven….
I will tell you honestly that it seems to me that Rotterdam is not a city for everyone. You wonder why? It’s a raw, modern city where you need to put an extra effort to discover it – and either you hate it or love it!
It was a relief that we could finally travel after more than a year, primarily at home. We decided to choose the direction of Scandinavia. The laid back Copenhagen lifestyle is perfect for enjoying time with kids.
We were lucky to take a deep breath and relax during the last days of 2021 in Norway. This trip gave our family a good energy boost, as we escaped into a Winter Paradise!
