Toddler Room Makeover with Mika
A lot of parents look online for inspiration to decorate their children’s rooms. My favourite platform at the moment is Instagram. It’s not only about beautiful images, but also personal style and touch which I like the most. You can just travel all around the world to see children’s rooms! How great is that! I discovered a mom of two Mika on Instagram too . On her account liep.et.to.the.moon she shares ideas how she decorates kids’ rooms. Mika designs and reimplements DIV projects by herself. Lately she was busy with creating her 3 years olds son’s room, so I ask her if she could share with us some insides about it:
Could you tell us a little about yourself, and where and with whom you live?Â
My name is Mika. I am 32, and I live between Stuttgart and Frankfurt in Germany. I am a mum of a 5 years old girl and 3 years old boy. I love DIY and to be creative. It started all with the problem to find a slide for my daughter’s room. So I built one for her, and my last DIY was the “high house” for my son.
We would like to know more about your newest project, decorating your son room. How did you start to plan his room?Â
The problem was my solution. He has not so many space in his room, and so I try to build something where he can play in. Our “high house.”Â
What was most important for you and for him to have in his room?Â
New space and that he can all take by his own for playing or reading
Is your son involved in the processes of making the room, helping painting, choosing colours, or selecting decorating items?Â
I know what he loves, so it’s easy for me to make him happy with my ideas. He loves to work with me on my projects and to hold the drilling machine during I work with. He holds and brings me the Screws.Â
And the last, what is his favourite activity in the new room and what do you like the most about it?Â
He loves to jump from his bed and play with his cars in his room.Â
As you can see, the room is kept in the serene and natural colour palette. A wooden floor gives a great base for white furniture, which make it more fresh and modern. Parents often ask me for advice which wood finish of Rafa-kids furniture to choose for their kid’s room. If you have a wooden floor similar to this one, I always suggest not to go for natural tone of furniture but contrast it with white or whitewash.
Even though this three years old boy has so many toys, the space is still pleasant for the eyes I think. The selection for accessories is also made in a similar colour palette of grey, black, white, and wood. Mika told us that the room is not very big. She managed to create a very inviting space, full of light. Rafa-kids White R toddler bed matches so well with the playful atmosphere. All the walls in the room are kept white, but only the one behind the bed is painted, which helps to bring more coziness to the sleeping corner. Under the bed, there is some space for boxes with toys, and above the bed, a personal shelf with cute little animals makes the corner so beautiful! I’m never sure if the hanging canopy above R toddler bed is a good idea, as I see it more above the baby bed but in this case, I believe works very nice. I hope you like this little room makeover.
Thank you, Mika, for letting us see it.
